Volunteer Program

Our volunteer program in Cameroon offers individuals aged 21 and above the opportunity to play their part in primate conservation.  The duration of the placement is negotiable, although the maximum is 3 months.

All of our volunteers live and work in our forest site, Mefou, which is home to over 70 chimps, 16 gorillas, and a whole variety of monkeys.  The accommodation is basic, the environment is hot and humid, and the work can be demanding, so it's not easy!  However, the rewards are fantastic, and most of our volunteers have a once in a lifetime experience working with the amazing animals in our care.

We must stress that we cannot guarantee that you will get direct contact with the animals. But even if you do not have direct contact with the animals, you will live and work very closely with them, so you will still have a memorable time.

How Much Does It Cost to Volunteer?

We ask volunteers to raise a donation of $2,500 for a 3 month stay, $2,000 for 2 months and $1,500 for one month. This money goes straight to the charity to help fund our running costs.

We encourage our volunteers to be creative and raise this money by fundraising so that the donation does not come out of their own pockets.

You may also be asked by CWAF Inc. to help with some of its other fundraising efforts as part of the application process
In addition to the donation, it will cost you 200,000 Cameroonian Franc, approximately $400 U.S. currency for every month of your stay for food and accommodation.

Flights and travel into Cameroon are an additional expense.

Interested applicants should download and complete the application form and email it to Caroline McLaney at:
